What are the symptoms of anxiety?
Anxiety disorders can come with a number of signs and symptoms, which may include:1, 2
- Feeling nervous, irritable, restless, or tense
- Having an increased heart rate
- Expecting the worst, even though there doesn’t seem to be a reason for worry or concern
- Having a sense of impending danger, panic, or doom that’s disproportionate to the situation
- Hyperventilating, shortness of breath
- Sweating and trembling
- Feeling weak or tired
- Difficulty concentrating on anything other than the situation that’s the source of worry
- Difficulty sleeping
- Gastrointestinal problems
- Difficulty managing/controlling the worry
- An urge to avoid things that trigger anxiety
