Is ketamine effective in treating mental health conditions?

While we cannot guarantee results, research has shown that, at lower doses, ketamine has rapid antidepressant effects and therapeutic benefits. For example, a 2021 study by the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis showed that ketamine infusions administered over a prolonged period resulted in “sustained remission of treatment-resistant depression” up to eight weeks.1 Another study showed that after receiving six weekly oral doses of ketamine, individuals with suicidal ideation experienced “significant reductions” in those feelings up to four weeks after the end of the study.2
